Hookahs and shisha boxes on a shelf beside a glass counter at Kush Kingdom

Hookahs, Shisha and Coals for a Full Setup in One Stop

WARNING: This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical.

Everything for a Hookah Night

A good hookah session needs four things: the hookah itself, the shisha, the coals and a bowl that suits the shisha. Kush Kingdom keeps all four on the same shelf, so you can walk out with a full setup or just the piece you are missing.

We carry complete hookahs in a few sizes, from compact travel models to full size pieces for the living room or the patio. The shisha selection covers fruit, mint, dessert and mixed flavors, and we keep coals and foil stocked because those are what people run out of first.

Hookah tobacco is a nicotine product, sold only to adults 21 and over with a valid ID.

Parts of a Hookah, and What to Look For

If you are buying your first hookah, these are the parts that make the biggest difference.

01

Base

The glass vase that holds the water. A wide, heavy base is harder to knock over. Make sure the stem seals snugly into it.

02

Stem

Stainless steel stems resist rust and last. A good stem pulls smoothly and comes apart for cleaning.

03

Bowl

Clay, silicone or ceramic. Phunnel style bowls keep juice from dripping down the stem; traditional bowls suit drier shisha.

04

Hose

Washable silicone hoses are easy to rinse and do not hold flavor between sessions, which matters when you switch flavors often.

Choosing Shisha and Coals

Shisha comes in different cuts and moisture levels. Wetter, finely cut shisha produces thick clouds and strong flavor and pairs well with a phunnel bowl. Drier, chunkier blends burn a little hotter and suit a traditional bowl.

For coals, natural coconut coals are the most popular choice at home. They need to be lit on a coal burner or stove until they are fully red all the way through, which usually takes several minutes. Quick lighting coals catch fast but some people notice more of a taste from them.

Mixing two flavors in one bowl is a great way to find something new. Ask what pairs well and we will suggest a combination.

  • Shisha in fruit, mint, dessert and mixed flavors
  • Natural coconut coals and quick lighting coals
  • Foil, heat management devices and tongs
  • Phunnel, traditional and silicone bowls
  • Washable silicone hoses and mouth tips
  • Grommets and replacement parts

Packing a Bowl the Easy Way

Break up the shisha and fluff it so there are no clumps. Sprinkle it loosely into the bowl until it sits just below the rim, leaving a small gap so the shisha does not touch the foil or heat device. Packing too tightly blocks airflow and leads to a harsh, burnt taste.

Cover the bowl with foil stretched tight and poke small holes, or use a heat management device, which makes heat easier to control. Place two or three fully lit coals around the edge, and move them toward the center as the session goes on.

If the smoke turns harsh, take a coal off or let the bowl rest for a minute. If the clouds get thin, add heat or rotate the coals. Small changes go a long way.

Cleaning and Care

Empty and rinse the base after every session so old water does not carry over into the next one. Run water through the stem and use a long brush to clear residue. Silicone hoses can be rinsed; leather or traditional hoses should not get wet inside.

A fully clean hookah is the single biggest upgrade to flavor. If your setup has started to taste stale, a deep clean usually fixes it. We carry brushes and cleaning supplies at both shops.

Our Richland Hills shop on Boulevard 26 is open every day until midnight, so you can grab coals or shisha on the way to a late session.

Setting Up Your First Session

Fill the base with cold water until the bottom of the stem sits about an inch below the surface. Too much water makes it hard to pull; too little and the smoke will feel hot. Seat the stem firmly in the base, attach the hose and try a test pull before you add the bowl. You should hear a steady bubble and feel no air leaking at the joints.

Light your coals on a coal burner or electric stove until they glow red all the way through, which takes several minutes. Use tongs, never your fingers, and set the hookah on a stable, heat safe surface away from anything that could catch.

Always use hookah outdoors or in a well ventilated room, since burning coals produce carbon monoxide. Let the coals cool completely in a metal container before you throw them away.

Plan on ten to fifteen minutes from filling the base to the first good pull. Once you have done it a couple of times, the whole setup becomes second nature, and a fresh bowl of shisha usually lasts most of an evening with friends.

If you are hosting, set out a spare bowl and an extra set of coals before people arrive. Swapping in a freshly packed bowl keeps the session going without a long wait in the middle of the night.
